Welcome to the online discussion on "the role of men and boys in achieving gender equality" organized by the Division for the Advancement of Women (DAW) of the United Nations.

The online discussion will run for four weeks, from 30 June to 25 July 2003. It will have one theme per week and the last week will be a wrap-up week.

For any technical problems, please contact Anna Modersitzki.

The purpose of the online discussion is to gather good practices and case studies on the role that men and boys could play in promoting gender equality. Your contributions will feed into the background information provided to a group of experts that will gather in [to be determined] in September/October 2003 for a meeting organized by the Division for the Advancement of Women, in collaboration with the International Labour Organization (ILO) and the Joint United Nations Programme on HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS). The online discussion and the Expert Group Meeting are part of the preparatory process for the 48th session of the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW) in March 2004. Your input will also be a critical contribution to our knowledge base on the role of men and boys in achieving gender equality.

We encourage you to share your views, ideas and observations and help structure debate and policy in this area.
